(Calhoun County) – East AlabamaWorks recently teamed up with the Calhoun County Area Chamber and Visitors Center and the Calhoun County Economic Development Council to provide Workforce Readiness Industry Tours for the county’s school superintendents, administrators, principals, and career tech officials.
The day began at the Oxford Civic Center with breakfast and a presentation by Josh Laney, Senior Director for Workforce Development for the Alabama State Board of Education. Following Laney’s presentation, attendees broke into three groups for a series of industry tours that included Bridgewater Interiors, Aerospace Coatings, Kobay, New Flyer, General Dynamics, and Industry Products.
Each facility tour guide spoke to the groups about the jobs available in their plants, and the skills and education needed by the workers they hire.
Workforce Readiness Industry Tours and Educator Workforce Academies are an opportunity for school officials and teachers to get out of their offices and classrooms and into local business and industries where they can actively engage in a discussions with industry leaders about the training and education needs of the local workforce.
