STATE LABOR SECRETARY TO ATTEND REGIONAL HIRING FAIR

Alabama Department of Labor Secretary Fitzgerald Washington will attend the East Alabama Regional Hiring Fair coming up on Thursday, November 1 at the Oxford Civic Center.  The free event will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. and will feature dozens of employers representing a variety of employment sectors.

East AlabamaWorks is proud to partner with the Alabama Career Centers in Anniston, Gadsden, and Talladega, and with WEAC TV24, to present this opportunity to connect employers from throughout Workforce Region 2 with citizens who are looking for work or to upgrade their current work situation.

“I’m happy to join East AlabamaWorks in hosting this job fair,” said Labor Secretary Fitzgerald Washington.  “Our mission at the Alabama Department of Labor is to connect jobseekers with employers, and job fairs like this are one of our best tools in order to fulfill that mission.  The collaboration and support between local workforce agencies is apparent during events like these, and we are happy to participate.”

More than fifty employers will be on-site with more than 15-hundred jobs to fill. Employers are encouraged to interview potential employees, and even hire new employees, on the spot. Interview areas will be provided for employers who wish to conduct private, on-site interviews.

Job seekers should arrive at the Hiring Fair dressed professionally, and should bring several copies of a current resume, along with photo ID, and any other items necessary to successfully apply for jobs.

Additionally, the state’s mobile Career Center will be on-site to help job seekers with resume preparation and to provide assistance with setting up online Alabama JobLink accounts. Career Center personnel will be conducting on-site Employability Skills seminars for job seekers who wish to improve their chances of being hired. There will also be an area where job seekers can have their resume reviewed and critiqued by Career Advisors from Jacksonville State University’s Career Services Office.

The Career Centers will also conduct pre-event Employability Skills seminars at their respective locations.
